Police: 2 dead in shooting at tax business in downtown Fort Mill on Main Street
Two people were killed Monday afternoon in a shooting incident at a business in downtown Fort Mill, officials said.
The shootings happened Monday afternoon around 1:15 p.m at the H&R Block tax preparation business at 239 Main Street, said Fort Mill Police Department Maj. Bryan Zachary.
“When officers arrived, we found two people deceased,” Zachary said. “Both appeared to have been shot.”
Zachary said there is no threat to the public, but declined to release further details.
The incident site is on Main Street near the Tom Hall Street intersection, Fort Mill police said. Police closed Main Street -- a one block stretch of businesses, restaurants, and shops. The shooting scene is less than a block from the judicial offices of the York County Magistrate Court Fort Mill offices.
Fort Mill police crime scene, detectives, forensics, and other units remained on scene late into the afternoon.
York County Sheriff’s Office deputies are assisting the Fort Mill Police Department, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said her office was called to the scene but has not yet released any information on the identities of the victims..
