NC man faces felony DUI charges after other driver hurt in York County head-on crash

A North Carolina man is charged with felony DUI after a head-on crash in York County left a Rock Hill man with injuries, according to police and jail records.

Randy Lane Watkins, 37, of North Wilkeseboro, was arrested late Thursday after he was discharged from a hospital following the Tuesday morning crash, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol. Watkins is charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, according to Miller and court records.

Watkins is charged with driving under the influence around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the time of the collision on S.C. 72 near Dunlap Roddey Road south of the Rock Hill city limits.

Watkins was traveling south on S.C. 72, also called Saluda Road, in a 2010 Nissan when the collision happened, Miller said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 61-year-old Rock Hill man, was taken to a hospital with injuries, Miller said.

The name and condition of the other driver has not been released.

A conviction for DUI with great bodily injury carries a potential sentence of 15 years, South Carolina law shows.

Watkins remains in the York County jail under a $25,000 bond, records show.
