A detention officer at the York County jail was arrested Thursday after she conspired to bring drugs to inmates, York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said.

Heather Nicole McRorie, 26, is charged with criminal conspiracy, Tolson said. Jail staff alerted deputies and York County drug agents of an attempt to smuggle drugs in for inmates, Tolson said.

McRorie, who has worked at the jail since February, was immediately fired, Tolson said.

“We do not tolerate this type of conduct by any member of this agency,” Tolson told The Herald. “We ensure our citizens that respect, integrity, character, accountability and professionalism are our core values and this incident has attempted to tarnish those values.”

Under South Carolina law, the sheriff’s office runs the county jail. Detention center employees work for the sheriff’s office.

McRorie remains in the jail pending a court hearing.
