Rock Hill Police are investigating possible arson after a car was found burning near a group of businesses late Monday.
Two people saw a vehicle burning near the 1000 block of Albright Road about 11:40 p.m. Monday, according to a police report. Fire crews arrived to find the vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Beetle, fully engulfed in flames.
No one was in the vehicle, and investigators say the fire appeared to have started on the right rear passenger side just above the gas cover.
One witness, who works in a business near where the car was found burning, said he “had recently heard of people loitering behind the (businesses) at night and occasionally starting fires in a nearby wood line,” police said.

There was no battery in the vehicle, and investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.
The Beetle was valued at $5,000.
Officers went to a home on Simpson Street to contact the registered owner, but were told he no longer lives there.
