Four killed and another injured in head-on wreck on I-77 in York County, troopers say
Four people were killed and another injured in a head-on collision in York County early Sunday morning, officials said.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 77 near mile marker 80, Master Trooper David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
A 2015 Chrysler 200 was traveling north on I-77 and was struck head-on by a 2014 Chrysler 300 that was traveling south in the northbound lanes, Jones said.
The driver of the Chrysler 200 and two passengers, who were all wearing seat belts, were pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said.
The driver of the Chrysler 300 was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, Jones said. A front-seat passenger in the car, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said.
The York County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the names of the four individuals who died. The crash remains under investigation, Jones said.
