Teen accused in Rock Hill attack on woman who fired shots, charged in 6 sex incidents
A teenage suspect who allegedly tried to sexually assault a Rock Hill woman is now charged in six sex-related incidents going back months, police said.
Antavis Ta’Shawn Dickerson, 18, of Riverview Road, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by officers after almost 24 hours of searching. The arrest came after an attack Monday where the woman fired a gun in self-defense, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.
In interviews with officers, Dickerson implicated himself in five other sex-related incidents in Rock Hill dating back to August, Chavis said in a written statement. Dickerson is charged by Rock Hill police with attacks on Aug. 2, Aug. 3, two incidents on Sept. 9, and Oct. 7, according to Rock Hill police documents and court records.
Dickerson is charged by the York County Sheriff’s Office with Monday night’s attack on Automall Parkway, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the sheriff’s office. The investigation showed the incident happened near Celanese Road just outside the city limits in county jurisdiction, Faris said.
Suspect charged with six crimes
In connection with the six incidents, Dickerson is charged with first-degree burglary, four counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, and three counts of indecent exposure, according to arrest warrants and court records.
In the Aug. 2 incident, Dickerson is charged with grabbing a woman’s buttocks, police said. He also is charged with propositioning the woman and grabbing and pushing her on Confederate Avenue, records show.
In the Aug. 3 incident, Dickerson is charged with pushing his way inside a Walnut Street home, propositioning and grabbing a woman before she screamed for help, police said. Because Dickerson allegedly forced his way into the home, he is charged with burglary, police said.
In the Sept. 9 incident, Dickerson is charged with exposing himself to a woman after propositioning her for sex at an apartment complex off Celanese Road, police said.
Later on Sept. 9, Dickerson is charged with grabbing a woman and propositioning her for sex before exposing himself on Hunters Trail near Celanese Road, police said.
Then on Oct. 7, Dickerson is charged with propositioning a woman on Cedarview Court for sex, then exposing himself, police said.
This week on Monday night, Dickerson allegedly attacked a woman walking on AutoMall Parkway near Celanese Road close to Interstate 77, police and deputies said. The woman fought back, officials said. The victim was able to pull her gun and fire shots that caused Dickerson to flee on foot toward Celanese Road, officials said.
What happens now?
The burglary charge carries up to life in prison for a conviction, South Carolina law states. Burglary is defined as when “A person enters a dwelling without consent and with intent to commit a crime in the dwelling.”
The attempted criminal sexual conduct charges are felonies that carry up to 10 years in prison for each conviction, state law shows. The indecent exposure charges are misdemeanors that carry up to three years in prison for each conviction.
Dickerson was denied bond Wednesday in court, officials said.
