Man shot in head while driving in Lancaster County, SC, deputies say

A Lancaster County man was shot in the head while driving Monday night, officials said.

The man, 27, was driving a Ford SUV in Kershaw when he was shot, said Doug Barfield, spokesman for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital where he remained in critical condition Tuesday, according to officials with the sheriff’s office and Lancaster County EMS. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The man was found around 6 p.m. inside the SUV after it crashed into a home on Richland Street, said Barry Faile, Lancaster County Sheriff. The man was alone in the SUV, Faile said.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office and Lancaster County’s violent crime task force determined the man was shot from outside the SUV, Faile said.

No arrests have been made.
