Rock Hill man charged with murder after Fort Mill woman killed near NC, officials say
A Rock Hill man is charged with murder after a Fort Mill woman was killed in York County near the North Carolina state line, officials said.
Yari Milan Wright, 23, was served arrest warrants for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime Wednesday night, according to jail records and Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was identified as Brittany Hardy, 23, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner.
Hardy died Tuesday night shortly after deputies arrive to Echo Springs Circle near Rhyne Road, northwest of Clover, officials said. The area is south of the Gaston County, N.C. state line and west of Lake Wylie.
Wright and Hardy knew each other, a statement from the sheriff’s office said. The extent of their relationship has not been released.
Deputies and coroner officials have not released the cause of death.
Records: Suspect was on probation for drugs
A conviction for murder in South Carolina carries a sentence of 30 years to life in prison.
Wright is on probation from a January 2021 conviction for cocaine possession in York County, South Carolina court records show.
Wright remains in the York County jail pending an initial court hearing in front of a magistrate judge. Wright can not be granted bail in that hearing because a magistrate can not set bond for suspects charged with murder, South Carolina law states. Only a circuit court judge can set bail for a suspect charged with murder.
