SC lawyer disbarred, pleads guilty to stealing York County client identities, records show
A South Carolina lawyer has been disbarred and faces prison after pleading guilty to a scam involving theft of York County client information, records show.
Christi Anne Misocky, of Lancaster County, was disbarred Wednesday in a unanimous decision by the S.C. Supreme Court, according to a public action posted on the suspreme court Web site.
Misocky, who formerly had offices in Fort Mill and Charlotte and Monroe in North Carolina, pleaded guilty in federal court in July to a felony charge of conspiracy where she used personal client information for fake securities, according to federal court documents.
In the scam, Misocky gave two other people client information that was used for the phony securities, documents show.
Misocky endorsed stolen checks, attempted to use another person’s identity to facilitate a vehicle trade, possessed a fake driver’s license and social security card and attempted to use them to purchase a car near Charleston, supreme court records state. She also purchased a different vehicle using a false identity, and possessed and passed two counterfeit checks with the intent to defraud a car dealership, according to federal court records and the supreme court order that takes away her license to practice law.
Misocky faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 when she is sentenced in federal court. A sentencing date has not been set.
The two other people allegedly involved in the scam were also indicted but have not been found and are considered fugitives, according to a federal court filing from federal prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
