Teen charged after woman shot in Rock Hill after dispute on residential street

A teen has been arrested after a woman was shot on a residential street in Rock Hill Monday afternoon, police said.

Zekiah Chrison Barber, 19, of Rock Hill, was charged Tuesday with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and shooting into a vehicle, according to a statement from Rock Hill police.

The victim, age 23, was hit by gunfire in both arms after an altercation in the road near the intersection of Gates Avenue and Bellingrath Boulevard, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.

The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. The residential neighborhood is in southern Rock Hill west of Saluda Road and south of Heckle Boulevard.

The victim’s identity and relationship to Barber has not been released. She was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment.

Barber is in the Rock Hill jail awaiting a bond hearing, police and court records show.

The shooting incident in a residential area was the second in the city on Monday. Earlier in the day around 11 a.m. in an unrelated case, police said a man on Byers Street was arrested and charged with domestic violence and weapons charges after allegedly firing a rifle toward a victim from a front porch. No one was hurt in the earlier shooting, police said.
