A man wanted by Rock Hill police for a domestic violence warrant was arrested on drug and weapon charges late Wednesday after someone spotted him outside a Rock Hill motel.

Officers were notified that 30-year-old Ross Gecobie Brice III, of Walnut Street, was in an older black Cadillac outside the Bestway Inn on Riverview Road, according to a police report. They found Brice, who was wanted for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, in the driver’s seat of the car and a woman in the passenger seat.

Inside the car, officers saw a small bag with about 5 grams marijuana on the floorboard between Brice’s feet and a .380-caliber pistol underneath the arm rest, police said.

The woman said she was staying with a friend at the motel and stepped outside, where she saw Brice and asked if he could give her a ride to the store, police said. She did not know Brice. The man in the room where she claimed to be staying said he knew the woman but that she wasn’t staying with him.

Brice initially told officers his name was Deven Randall, and that he knew Ross Brice but that Brice wasn’t at the hotel, the report states. The motel’s clerk said the ID of the man who rented the room indicated he was Deven Randall.

When asked again, the driver of the car admitted to being Brice “because he was going to jail anyway,” police said. Inside Brice’s motel room, they found about 61 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, a grinder and $694 in the safe box. The woman who was in the car with Brice was released from the scene.

Brice was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana-third offense and unlawful carrying of a pistol. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he remained Thursday under $80,000 bond.
