An infant has been found safe after Lancaster, S.C., police reports that the child had allegedly been taken early Tuesday by his father. However police say they still are looking for the father.

In a statement on the official police social media, the Lancaster Police Department alleged early today that Derrick Lamont Nelson took Alijah Nelson, a 9-month-old toddler, after pointing a gun at the child’s mother.

The child was found safe, police said in a second Facebook posting Tuesday afternoon.

“Update: The missing child has been located and is safe,” police said in the statement.

However, police continue to seek Nelson, the statement said. The incident happened around 8 a.m., Lancaster police said.

Officials released pictures of Nelson and the baby Tuesday before noon.
