A South Carolina man was found shot to death Tuesday in a yard in Chester in what officials say is a homicide, police and coroner officials said.

The victim was identified as Donald Eric Miller, 59, of Chester, said Terry Tinker, Chester County Coroner.

Miller was dead when found before 7 a.m. Tuesday, Tinker told The Herald.

Chester Police Department Interim Chief Milton Sims said in a written statement that Miller, known as “J.J.,” was found in a yard in the 130 block of Wylie Street. Miller had been shot and police consider the case a homicide, Sims said in the statement.

No arrests have been made.

Police have not released any other information about the death.

The area of the death is near downtown Chester close to the Chester County Courthouse. Chester is a city of around 5,500 people in Chester County between Rock Hill and Columbia.
