$10K in copper wiring stolen from Lake Wylie construction site

An unknown person broke into a grocery store under construction and took $10,000 in copper wiring, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The theft was reported Monday at a Publix supermarket that is under construction on Highway 274 in Lake Wylie, according to a sheriff’s report. A construction supervisor told deputies someone forced their way into the building through a boarded up window and cut the plastic-coated copper wiring out of six wall panels. The suspect also took about 2,000 feet of copper wiring from two spools.

The stolen copper was valued at about $10,000, deputies said. The supervisor said the person responsible for the burglary “was familiar with the inside layout of the facility,” and believes the theft may have been carried out by one of his employees.
