Authorities say a wanted drug dealer threw a bag of crack into the bushes while running from police Wednesday night in York.

Marquis Patton, 26, of York had four warrants for his arrest following a two month drug investigation, said Marvin Brown, commander of the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police saw him at about 7:30 p.m. outside a convenience store on Congress Street. When officers approached him, Patton jumped from his car and ran.

The officers chased Patton for about 75 yards before catching him. During the chase, Patton threw a bag with 18 grams of crack into the bushes, Brown said.

Officers recovered scales and packaging materials. The total average street value of the crack seized and purchased is approximately $2,000.

Brown called Patton a “mid-level crack dealer” who was concentrating on the Valley area of York. He was out on prison on a supervised release before his arrest Wednesday.

This is his third drug offense. Patton’s charges include trafficking crack, distribution of crack and distribution of crack within a 1/2 mile of a park. He was booked at the York County Detention Center, where bond was denied.
