Fort Mill traffic stop for cigarette littering leads to drug bust

Two lit cigarettes thrown from a car on S.C. 160 and U.S. 21 in Fort Mill earlier this week led to arrests for cocaine and marijuana possession.

A York County Sheriff’s deputy observed the passenger and the driver throw the lit cigarettes. He stopped the car at the Peach Stand and smelled alcohol in the car, according to a York County Sheriff’s report.

The deputy decided to issue littering citations to the driver, Corrine N. Bonnema, 19, and the passenger Argon Rusinovci, 26, both of Fort Mill.

The deputy searched the vehicle after Rusinovci admitted there was an open container of alcohol.

The search found a baggy containing what the deputy thought to be cocaine. There was an open bottle of alcohol in a backpack while also held a glass jar filled with marijuana, the report states.

Rusinovci said he is a “recreational” coke user and that the marijuana was his, according to the sheriff’s office report, while Bonnema said the bottle of alcohol was hers.

Rusinovci was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, the report states. Bonnema was charged with with an open container of beer or wine in a vehicle.
