Rock Hill assault charges linked to brother’s escape from work release

A Rock Hill man was charged with assault and battery after he allegedly attacked a woman he thought helped law enforcement find his brother who escaped from work release earlier this week.

York County Sheriff’s deputies arrested William C. Camp, 24, on Wednesday and charged him with assault and battery.

Camp allegedly attacked the woman who had come to pick up her nephew from Camp.

According to a York County Sheriff’s Office report, Camp attacked the 26-year-old Fort Mill woman, knocking her to the floor and dragging her through the house by her hair. He then allegedly tossed her out of the house and then stepped on her stomach and foot.

When deputies met with the victim she was “in obvious fear as she was crying and had a hard time speaking clearly,” according to the report. She was taken to Piedmont Medical Center by her mother for treatment.

Deputies said Camp offered a different version, saying the two argued and he picked up the victim “underneath her arms” and dragged her out of the house. On his way to the detention center Camp threatened to assault the victim numerous times, according to the report.

According to the report, Camp is the younger brother of Bobby Albert Camp, 25, who escaped from work release in Rock Hill on Tuesday.

A reward is being offered for information leading to Camp’s capture. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 877-349-2130 or contact local law enforcement.
