York Co. investigators intercept 3 marijuana packages from California
Two people were arrested on drug charges after authorities in York County intercepted three marijuana packages that had been shipped from California, according to the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit.
Earlier this month, officers conducted a narcotics investigation at a home on the 400 block of Soft Winds Village Drive in Rock Hill when they saw a vehicle driven by Melissa Ann Bergeron leave the scene, according to an incident report. Bergeron’s North Carolina driver’s license was suspended.
During the investigation, officers found a digital scale, partially smoked marijuana cigarettes and a metal container of marijuana, the report states. A package was delivered to the home during the investigation that contained about 8 pounds of high-grade marijuana, and investigators also seized 7 grams of marijuana and a 9 mm pistol from inside the home.
Bergeron was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and criminal conspiracy. She had been released as of Tuesday.
Matthew Nash Goodman, 32, who is also listed as living at the Soft Winds Village Drive home, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He remained in the York County detention center without bond Tuesday.
In a separate investigation, York County drug investigators on Monday seized two packages addressed to two homes on the 100 block of Etta Vaughn Lane, according to a sheriff’s report. The packages had a return address in California and contained about 500 grams of marijuana together.
One apartment was vacant, and the occupant of the second apartment said she had no knowledge of either package, investigators said. One package contained just under a pound of low-grade marijuana, and the other contained a quarter-pound of high-grade marijuana.
“It is common for packages to be delivered to apartments and then persons waiting nearby retrieve the packages from the outside,” the report states.
The average street value for high grade marijuana is about $300 per ounce, and regular marijuana sells for about $100 per ounce, according to Marvin Brown, commander of the drug unit.
