A teenager was hospitalized and another teenager taken into custody Wednesday after a shooting at a Kershaw apartment complex, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported Wednesday afternoon at Foxwood Apartments on Kershaw Country Club Road, said Maj. Matt Shaw, a sheriff’s spokesman. There, they found the 16-year-old victim with a gunshot wound and began searching for the suspect after obtaining a description.

Deputies found the suspect, 17-year-old Ezekial Patterson, several blocks away from the apartment complex, Shaw said. He fled and was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Patterson had a gun on him when he was arrested, Shaw said. The shooting is still under investigation, and officials say it appears some previous altercation led to the shooting.

Patterson is in the Lancaster County detention center awaiting a bond hearing on attempted murder and weapons charges. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

“We are hoping and praying that the victim makes a full recovery,” Sheriff Barry Faile said. “Senseless violence like this has no place in our society. We are thankful that we were able to get the suspect into custody so quickly.”
