A York County man police and prosecutors said beat up his girlfriend and threatened to kill her and also beat up her young son in a January incident will spend the next three years in prison, according to court records.

Travis Dwayne Stokes, 23, of Rock Hill, pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and unlawful conduct toward a child, said Erin Joyner, 16th Circuit assistant solicitor.

In the incident Stokes beat his girlfriend so badly she suffered a broken nose, and injuries and cuts to her jaw and face. As the violence against his girlfriend was unfolding, Stokes also threatened to kill her and set out materials to use, Joyner said. The girlfriend’s young son was present during the abuse and also was hit by Stokes during the incident, Joyner said.

Stokes also will have to serve four years probation and receive batterers counseling.
