Teen charged after person found shot in Rock Hill near Celanese Road and Interstate 77

A teen has been charged after a person was shot Monday before noon in Rock Hill, officials said.

The victim was found by officers with a wound to the abdomen at a residence in the 1400 block of Fieldcrest Circle, Rock Hill Police Department Lt. Michael Chavis said in a written statement. Officers responded around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The area is in northern Rock Hill, north of Celanese Road and west of Interstate 77.

The suspect charged is age 17, Chavis said in a second statement released by the police department later Monday afternoon. The suspect is charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a pistol by a person under age 18, police said in the statement.

The suspect has been detained and is in the custody of the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice, police said..

The victim is hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after being transported by EMS, Chavis said. The identity of the victim has not been released.

The weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered by officers, police said in the statement.
