Eight cars broken into in a single night on Rock Hill street
York County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after eight vehicles were broken into overnight on a single Rock Hill street.
Several wallets and purses were reported stolen, along with a laptop computer and two handguns.
Investigators estimate the cars on Covered Bridge Court were broken into between midnight and 7 a.m. Thursday.
A deputy was dispatched to the area Thursday morning to investigate one break-in, then was approached by several neighbors claiming their cars were also broken into.
Half of the vehicles had their windows smashed open, while the others were apparently entered without force.
Among the stolen items were two handguns taken from two separate cars, a Smith & Wesson SDVE 9mm and a Ruger LCP.380, valued at a total of $999. An iPod valued at $189 was also taken from one vehicle.
A black Lenova laptop in a backpack was also reported stolen, but it was later located in a neighbor’s yard along with some empty wallets and a purse, apparently dropped by the thief as he or she made off with items from other cars.
