MCT file

Police are investigating the second rash of car break-ins to hit Rock Hill in less than a week.

Five burglaries were reported Monday morning on Northpark Drive, Etta Vaughn Lane, Eden Terrace and Scoggins Street. Two of the vehicles had been entered through broken windows, one vehicle had been left unlocked, another had been left unlocked with the windows down, and the fifth vehicle was entered by an unknown means, since the car showed no signs of forced entry and the owner said the car had been locked.

Two of the break-ins happened in a parking lot on Northpark Drive, according to reports. A purse and its contents were stolen from one car, and jewelry and a camera were reported stolen from the second.

Burglars removed a wallet from the vehicle on Etta Vaughn Lane, police said. The wallet was found on the ground nearby, but about $500 cash was missing.

Police were able to lift partial fingerprints from the vehicle on Eden Terrace, from which $1,000 cash, athletic wear and a souvenir football jersey were taken, the report states.

Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle on Scoggins Street, police said.

The break-ins reported Monday follow several others reported to Rock Hill Police over the weekend.

The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Thursday night rash of car break-ins on Covered Bridge Court in Rock Hill, during which several wallets and purses, a laptop computer and two guns were reported stolen.
