Rock Hill officers deploy Taser on combative drug suspect

Rock Hill police officers investigating gunshots arrested a man who had to be stunned because he kept resisting police, according to police reports.

The gunshots were reported on the 400 block of Green Street at about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday. While looking for suspects, officers saw Willie Joseph Roberts, 25, running across State Street and ordered him to stop, according to a police report. Roberts tried to run and began to “actively fight” an officer who approached him.

A second officer assisted and told Roberts to stop or he would be stunned, police said. Roberts continued resisting and refused to put his hands behind his back, at which point one officer stunned him once in the upper right side of his back. Officers were able to put Roberts in handcuffs.

On the ground, police found a black bag containing one gram of crack, a digital scale and about $600 cash scattered on the ground where Roberts struggled with officers, the report states.

Roberts was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack and resisting police. He remained in the Rock Hill city jail Thursday morning under $10,000 bond.
