Man found hiding in attic of home 100 miles from where he was wanted, SC cops say

The search for a wanted man ended Monday in a South Carolina home that’s about 100 miles from where the crimes he’s facing charges for occurred.

Law enforcement officers found Deshaun Maurice Guinyard hiding in the attic of a home in the Edgemoor area, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

That’s at least four counties away from Orangeburg County, where Guinyard was wanted on violent crime charges, according to the release.

Arrest warrants were issued for Guinyard on armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and criminal conspiracy charges, the sheriff’s office said.

On Dec. 9, 2023, deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office met with two victims while responding to a call about an armed robbery that happened at a home on Percheron Street in Orangeburg, according to an incident report.

The victims, both younger than 18, said they played basketball with the 20-year-old Guinyard and an 18-year-old man before going inside a home in the 100 block, according to the incident report. While in the home’s kitchen, Guinyard pointed a pistol to the back of the head of one of the victims, while the 18-year-old pointed a Glock handgun with a green laser at the other juvenile, the incident report said.

The victims said Guinyard and the 18-year-old stole multiple items from them — including debit cards, IDs, a Gucci belt and a pair of Nike Air Jordan retro 6 sneakers — before letting the juveniles go, according to the incident report.

Information about how Guinyard was tracked down to the Edgemoor home, and what he was doing there, was not available. After he was found hiding in the attic, Guinyard was quickly taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, according to the release.

Guinyard was booked into the Chester County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, and is scheduled to be extradited to Orangeburg County, according to the release.

A spokesman for the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office told The State that the 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody Saturday on armed robbery and criminal conspiracy charges. His bond was set at $50,000, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
