Two men arrested after shooting in Rock Hill drug deal gone bad, police say

Two men have been arrested after a shooting in Rock Hill Sunday during a drug deal left a third man wounded, police said.

The wounded man had a gun when he tried to rob two others who were going to sell him marijuana in the parking lot of a business on Saluda Street after midnight, according to a statement from the Rock Hill Police Department. One of the two men then shot him, police said.

The 21-year-old wounded man remains in critical condition at a hospital, Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis said Monday. He has not been identified.

Demetris Maurice Franklin, 19, the alleged shooter, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to police and jail records.

Christopher King Boyd, 21, faces charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Franklin and Boyd remain in the York County jail after they were arrested.

The investigation remains ongoing.
