Chester man charged with shooting at sheriff’s deputy
A Chester man was charged this week with firing at a sheriff’s deputy who was responding to a possible drive-by shooting, according to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers received a call just after 11 a.m. Tuesday about someone in a vehicle shooting at people on Morningside Drive, according to a sheriff’s report. The first deputy to arrive saw the black vehicle travel down Morningside Drive toward Lancaster Highway.
A man jumped from the vehicle and began running, deputies said. The vehicle continued rolling forward and hit a utility pole.
The suspect, 21-year-old Aliek Jaquon Pendergrass, continued firing shots from a handgun as he run, deputies said. An arrest warrant states Pendergrass fired multiple shots in the deputy’s direction.
Pendergrass was later arrested by officers on Lancaster Highway. He was charged with first-degree assault and battery and placed in the Chester County detention center, where he remained Thursday.
