A woman remains in custody after taking a gun into a Rock Hill medical building Tuesday afternoon, police said.

No one was hurt in the incident that happened after 1 p.m. at Affinity Health Center on Lakeshore Parkway, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department. Affinity Health Center describes itself as a community health center with services that include counseling, dental care as well as HIV and hepatitis C treatment.

Police identified the woman as Serenity Stroud, 26, of Rock Hill. She faces charges of breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature and pointing and presenting a gun.

Officers took Stroud to Piedmont Medical Center hospital after the incident Tuesday because she took some type of medications, police said in the statement. She will be transferred to the Rock Hill jail after she is released from the hospital, officials said.

It remains unclear why she was at the medical building or why she brought the handgun that she pulled from a bag, Chavis said.

Police recovered the gun, Chavis said.

Officers were initially called about an “armed person” handling the gun at the health center, Chavis said. The first officer on scene saw a female with a gun, Chavis said. That’s when dozens of officers converged at the medical building located across Anderson Road from York Technical College near Dave Lyle Boulevard.

“We had an all out response from all Rock Hill officers on duty at the time,” Chavis said.

The medical building was placed on lockdown and evacuated, Chavis said. The streets immediately around the building were initially sealed off but re-opened later, Chavis said.

York County Sheriff’s Office deputies and York County Emergency Management officials also responded.

Detectives and forensic teams remained at the scene through Tuesday night.
