SC man arrested in foot chase after Rock Hill Christmas Eve shooting, police say
Police arrested a South Carolina man in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting in Rock Hill that left another man wounded, officials said.
Rock Hill Police Department officers took Semaj Malik Bernard Evans, 21, of Florence, into custody Tuesday after a foot chase, police said in a statement. The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Robinson Street, the police statement said.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, had been shot several times, police said. The victim and Evans were arguing in a yard before Evans allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim, according to the police statement.
Police arrested Evans after finding him on Carolina Avenue, the statement said.
The victim was taken to Piedmont Medical Center hospital for injuries, the statement said.
Police have not identified the victim and his condition Thursday was unclear.
Officials have not released what the argument was about or why Evans was in Rock Hill. Florence is about 100 miles east in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.
Two houses were hit by gunfire, according to the police statement.
Evans is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, illegal carrying of a handgun, and two counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling, according to police and York County jail records. He remained in jail Thursday under a $225,000 bond, records show.
