Boy, 13, charged with murder in SC stabbing death of 16-year old in Chester County
A 13-year-old South Carolina boy has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of another teen in Chester County, prosecutors said.
The 16-year-old victim died Tuesday night after being stabbed earlier in the evening, officials said.
On Wednesday, Chester County Sheriff’s Office deputies filed juvenile petitions for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime against the 13-year-old defendant, according to 6th Circuit Solicitor Randy Newman and Deputy Solicitor Candice Lively.
The 13-year-old remains in the custody of the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice pending a detention hearing in Family Court, prosecutors said.
The 6th Circuit Solicitor’s Office prosecutes criminal cases in Chester, Lancaster, and Fairfield counties.
Victim, suspect not identified
Officials have not released the name of the defendant or the victim, or if there was any previous relationship between the two.
No details about an alleged motive or what may have caused the incident have been released..
The stabbing happened on Russell Road in the Blackstock community in the rural southern part of the county. The area is between Rock Hill and Columbia.
Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker confirmed the victim died in a hospital and the sheriff’s office announced the death in a statement issued Wednesday morning on its Facebook page.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
The State Law Enforcement Division was called to assist in the investigation, the sheriff’s office said. The SLED child fatality task force is required under South Carolina law to investigate any death of a child under age 18.
