South Carolina police have arrested a man in Rock Hill in connection with a fatal shooting in Chester earlier this week, according to police and court records.

In addition to a murder charge, he faces a fentanyl trafficking charge that carries a mandatory 25 years in prison for a conviction after drugs were found during the investigation, according to deputies and arrest warrants obtained by The Herald.

Micheal Andre Kendrick, 32, is accused of shooting Bryan Jawaan Feaster at a house on Steinkuhler Street in Chester Monday night, according to arrest warrants and statements from the State Law Enforcement Division and Chester Police Department.

Feaster, 37, died at the scene after he was shot at close range before Kendrick fled the house, documents show.

Rock Hill, Chester, and state police took Kendrick into custody in York County Tuesday. Rock Hill is about 20 miles north of Chester.

Witnesses identified Kendrick as the shooter, according arrest warrants that charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Murder carries 30 years to life in prison for a conviction under South Carolina law.

Jail and court records show Chester County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Kendrick on a fentanyl trafficking charge after a search, according to a separate arrest warrant obtained by The Herald. He is charged with trafficking more than 28 grams, the warrant states.

Officials in both Carolinas over the past few years have said fentanyl is dangerous because it is cheap, deadly and easily obtained on the street. It is a synthetic opioid stronger than heroin. South Carolina enacted new fentanyl trafficking laws in 2023.

Kendrick remains jailed without bail on the murder, drug trafficking, and weapons charges, sheriff’s office records show.
