Deputies arrested a South Carolina man after he ran into a Publix grocery store in Fort Mill Thursday afternoon with a rifle, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office, an incident report, and jail records.

No one was hurt and no shots were fired, sheriff’s office spokesman Trent Faris said.

Officers responded to the area of Pleasant Road near Gold Hill Road around 2:30 p.m. to a call about a man with a gun who was allegedly on the property of Beansprout Academy, the report states. Deputies found and confronted the man who then ran across Pleasant Road before he went inside the grocery store, according to the report. Deputies followed the man inside, the report said.

The man locked himself in an employee office before deputies took him into custody, the report said. Deputies recovered the rifle, a handgun and ammunition, the report states.

Jaylen Richard Reid, 30, of Fort Mill, is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, failure to stop for a blue light, trespassing, and resisting arrest, and remained in custody Friday under a $110,465 bond, according to the incident report and jail records.
