A pregnant woman charged with shoplifting from a Lake Wylie store Wednesday tested positive for heroin after admitting she used the drug the night before, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

A man and woman reportedly shoplifted about $240 in over-the-counter medication from the Food Lion on Charlotte Highway Wednesday morning and left in a vehicle, according to a sheriff’s report. Deputies pulled the vehicle over near the intersection of Charlotte Highway and S.C. 55. The man in the passenger seat and the woman in the back seat matched the description of the two shoplifting suspects provided by the store.

In the backseat, where the woman was sitting, were several boxes of medication that matched the description of the items stolen from the store, deputies said.

The male shoplifting suspect, 50-year-old Robert Eugene Bartlett Jr., of Gastonia, N.C., and the female suspect, 30-year-old Lacey Brooke Lynch, of Belmont, N.C., were each charged with two counts of shoplifting and two counts of criminal conspiracy.

The driver, 24-year-old Jordan Austin Crawford of Belmont, N.C., was wanted in North Carolina for a probation violation.

Lynch, who told deputies she was pregnant and having stomach pains, was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, the report states. She told hospital staff she was six months pregnant, and had used heroin the night before.

A urine test indicated a positive result for heroin and “other opiates,” the report states.

Lynch and Bartlett remained in the York County detention center under $10,000 bond each.
