York County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested two men accused of taking more than $5,000 in toys and playground equipment from a Lake Wylie daycare center.

Joshua Ray Rodgers, 34, of Dallas, N.C., and Joseph Edward Daniel, 32, of Gaffney were charged with grand larceny, burglary second degree, and criminal conspiracy, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Authorities have also accused Rodgers of a larceny from May 25 at Sweet Water Bar and Grill in Lake Wylie, the release states.

The daycare toy theft happened May 17, according to deputies. The items have not been recovered.

Rodgers and Daniel were charged and arrested after authorities developed them as suspects based on surveillance video footage from the Giving Tree Day Care, the sheriff’s office says. In the video, two men are seen going over a fence into the playground area. The men are accused of taking a toy climbing tree, a play house set, and several boxes of toys.

Weeks after the theft, a Charlotte company with the same name donated several toys and playground equipment.

The sheriff’s office said Monday that Rodgers has been released from jail on a $30,300 bond and Daniel was released on a $20,500 bond.
