Hospital officials refused to treat a Chester man who pulled fixtures off the wall at Piedmont Medical Center and threatened to kill police officers, according to a Rock Hill Police report released Monday.

Police found an injured Michael Ray Martin, 36, late last week arguing with a woman at the scene of a wreck on Albright Road, the report states.

Martin said the woman hit him repeatedly in the head and face while he was driving. Then she grabbed the steering wheel, jerking it to cause the crash. After the wreck, Martin backhanded the woman and threw her onto the ground, stomping on her back, police say.

Martin told police he broke his hand during the accident. EMS were called to treat both Martin and the woman.

At Piedmont Medical Center, Martin pulled several fixtures off the walls and caused approximately $1,500 in damage, the report states.

After police placed both his wrists in handcuffs, Martin threatened to “kill them” once the cuffs were removed.

Because of Martin’s behavior, hospital staff refused treatment.

Martin made additional threats to the officer who escorted him to jail and said “he would come back to Rock Hill and shoot him and any other police officer he came in contact with,” a report states.

Martin was charged with criminal domestic violence, threatening the life of a public official, disorderly conduct and two counts of damage to property, according to police documents. He is booked at the York County Detention Center on a $28,000 bond.

The female passenger was charged with criminal domestic violence.
