A suspect on a “violent rampage” in South Carolina Wednesday afternoon killed a business owner, the Lancaster County sheriff said.

Roger Ledell Baskins, 52, is charged with murder in the death of Charles Wilburn Presler, 65, of Rock Hill.

Presler owned a business in Lancaster, located about 20 miles east of Rock Hill.

Sheriff Barry Faile said in a statement Baskins stole Presler’s SUV and shot him at Presler’s Memorial Park Road shop before deputies caught Baskins and recovered the vehicle.

Baskins also shot into a family member’s vehicle at a nearby residence on the same street where Baskins had been staying shortly before Presler was killed, according to Faile.

“We might never know what set Baskins off, but for about an hour and a half he was on a violent rampage in our community,” Faile said.

A judge denied bail to Baskins, who deputies said has ties to both Charlotte and Lancaster, on 10 charges that include murder, armed robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and weapons charges.
