South Carolina police are investigating a fatal shooting in Indian Land after a man was found dead in an apartment complex parking lot Thursday morning.

Deputies responding to 911 calls about shots fired around 3:30 a.m. found the 26-year-old victim outside the Parkstone apartments off U.S. 521.

Few details were available Thursday; no arrests have been made. The Lancaster County Coroner has not yet identified the man killed.

“We have people on scene and around the area working the case,” Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Barfield told The Herald.

No motive or reason for the shooting has been released. It is unclear if there were witnesses or video surveillance footage in the area.

Indian Land is east of Fort Mill and South of the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. The area has boomed in recent years with a huge residential population growth and commercial areas adjacent to both sides of U.S. 521.

A large police presence remained nearby Thursday.

No other victims were found but at least one truck appeared to be hit by the gunfire, Barfield said.
