Lancaster, SC, police looking for man they say killed another man at apartment

Authorities are looking for a man who shot and killed another man at Palmetto Place Apartments on Monday night, the Lancaster Police Department said.

Lancaster officers were dispatched at 9:33 p.m. to the apartments on Pardue Street.

Police found Edward Townsend, 57, with injuries related to a single gunshot wound. Townsend was transported to MUSC- Lancaster Medical Center, where he died, officials said.

Police charged suspect James Singleton, 56, with murder in a warrant and said they did not have an address for him. They believe he would be on foot.

“The Lancaster Police Department is committed to bringing justice for Mr. Townsend and ensuring the safety of our community. We are working tirelessly to locate Mr. Singleton and urge the public to assist us by providing any information that could lead to his apprehension. Our thoughts are with Mr. Townsend’s family during this difficult time, and we are determined to resolve this case swiftly and effectively,” Police Chief Don Roper said in a statement.
