A Woodruff man was arrested Tuesday after employees at a Roebuck Food Lion accused him of shoplifting steaks by concealing them in his colostomy bag.

David Earl Hoyt, 55, of 621 Aiken Road, was charged with shoplifting after he “made a verbal confession” to Spartanburg County deputies, according to the incident report.

Food Lion employees told deputies that the man later identified as Hoyt shoplifted five packages of ribeye-steaks – valued at $75 – by putting them in a canvas bag and leaving the store, according to the report.

Deputies viewed the store’s video footage and were able to obtain a license plate number from a green Nissan and learned it was registered to Hoyt, according to the incident report.

Deputies found Hoyt at his girlfriend’s house along Poole Street. When they arrived at the home, Hoyt spoke with them, the incident report stated.

Hoyt initially denied shoplifting from Food Lion, but he eventually confessed. His girlfriend confirmed Hoyt had taken the meat from his colostomy bag, deputies said.
