Man killed in Rock Hill shooting after chasing person he found in his car, police say

Rock Hill police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Thursday on Amelia Avenue.

Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a man Thursday morning, officials said.

The killing happened before 5 a.m. in the 1100 block of Amelia Avenue. That is a residential neighborhood west of Cherry Road and Cherry Park.

The 39-year-old victim has not been identified by police or the York County Coroner.

The victim was at his home when he saw someone in his vehicle outside, Rock Hill police said in a statement. As the victim came outside the house, the person who was in the car ran, according to police.

The victim gave chase before shots were fired, according to the statement. Officers found the man shot in a yard on Amelia Avenue where he died.

Rock Hill police spokesman Lt. Michael Chavis said after the shooting no arrests have been made.
