Babysitter accused of leaving children in car in Rock Hill
A babysitter was arrested after police say she left two small children in a hot car parked in downtown Rock Hill.
Police were called to the Wells Fargo on East Main Street at 10:30 a.m. Friday after witnesses saw two children, ages 2 and 4, crying in their car seats with no adult supervision, according to a Rock Hill police report.
Witnesses checked inside the bank to find a parent or guardian, but after nearly 30 minutes passed they called police.
Officers sought medical assistance to treat the children for dehydration. They were taken to a hospital emergency room for further treatment. Their mother was contacted.
The babysitter, Mary Elizabeth Jaynes, 21, of Fort Mill, was found at a nearby job recruiting business and escorted back to the car. A worker for the recruiting company said Jaynes had been there for approximately an hour, the report states.
Jaynes is charged with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child, police say. She remains at the York County Detention Center without bond.
