Attempted murder suspect arrested in Rock Hill after anonymous tip
An anonymous tip helped Rock Hill Police capture a man wanted for attempted murder.
The department’s violent crimes unit recently received information from someone who wished to remain anonymous and said Shifeek McCullough, 18, was at a home on the 700 block of Rockdale Street, according to a police report.
McCullough was wanted in connection with two Aug. 5 shootings on Bynum Avenue, said Capt. Mark Bollinger, a Rock Hill Police spokesman. During that incident, someone fired a gun into an occupied home and a vehicle several doors down on the same street. No injuries were reported.
As investigators arrived, they saw McCullough flee through the backyard of the home, police said. An officer chased him onto Midvale Avenue, where McCullough threw a black object on the ground in a yard on the 700 block. He ran into the roadway but gave up and was taken into custody.
The black object McCullough threw turned out to be a .22-caliber pistol, the report states. McCullough also had a half-gram of marijuana in his pocket when he was arrested.
McCullough was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, malicious injury to real property and two counts of unlawful carry. He remained in the York County detention center without bond on Monday.
Bollinger said more arrests are possible for the Aug. 5 shooting.
