Police: Ex-girlfriend tries to run down student with Jeep at South Pointe High
A South Pointe High School student was nearly run down by his ex-girlfriend in the school parking lot late Tuesday afternoon and the accused girl could face attempted murder charges, according to Rock Hill Police.
Officers reviewed security camera footage from the incident which shows the girl – who name and age have not been released – driving her Jeep at the student, then fleeing the scene, a police report states. No injuries were reported.
Rock Hill school district spokesman Mychal Frost told The Herald on Wednesday the accused driver from this incident does not attend South Pointe.
The student told police on Tuesday his ex-girlfriend was upset about their recent break-up and had previously threatened him on Monday, allegedly sending him text messages that she would get “a group of ‘FAM’ and come shoot him,” according to the report. He claimed that she said “I know where you live” and quoted his address, despite him telling her to leave him alone.
Police say video footage from the security camera shows the student walking outside after leaving wrestling practice at South Pointe. He told officers he had an engine revving and saw his ex-girlfriend driving toward him.
The police report states the Jeep was about 10 feet away from the student when the driver “slammed on the gas.” The student ran away and the Jeep left the parking lot, according to the report.
Rock Hill Police on Wednesday declined to release the video, citing an ongoing criminal investigation.
Authorities say the incident happened around 4:40 p.m.
