Update: Girl, 15, charged with attempted murder after trying to run down South Pointe student
Local law enforcement officers and York County solicitors will move forward with charging a 15-year-old high school student with attempted murder after she allegedly tried to run over a South Pointe High School student late Tuesday afternoon with her Jeep.
Rock Hill Police Department spokesman Executive Officer Mark Bollinger said Thursday the girl’s case will be heard in Family Court. Her name is not being released because she is a minor. School district officials have said the girl does not attend South Pointe.
The attempted murder charge stems from an alleged incident in the South Pointe parking lot around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Security cameras captured the incident where the girl is accused of revving her Jeep’s engine and attempting to run over her ex-boyfriend, who was on campus after school for wrestling practice, according to police records. The boy ran away and the driver fled the scene.
No one was injured.
Police officials said earlier this week they believe the incident happened due to the driver and the victim’s recent break up.
The girl was petitioned as a juvenile by Rock Hill Police and was not formally arrested or booked into the city jail, Bollinger told The Herald on Thursday. It’s unclear whether the girl has a conditional driver’s license or who owns the vehicle she was allegedly driving.
