The Rock Hill granddaughter accused of a vigilante plot against her grandfather over alleged abuse is scheduled for court Monday.

Kaylan Whiteside, 22, faces attempted murder, conspiracy, burglary and weapons charges from the August 2014 incident where Wayne Whiteside was shot at his home outside Rock Hill. After her arrest she gave a “detailed statement” to police about the incident, prosecutors said in a previous hearing.

Wayne Whiteside, a Vietnam War veteran who fired shots at his attackers, survived.

Kaylan Whiteside has been in jail for a year pending trial.

The shooter in the scheme, Wolfgang Liewald, was sentenced to 17 years in prison in May after pleading guilty. In that hearing, Liewald’s lawyer called the plot “drug-induced misguided vigilantism” concocted to exact revenge for alleged abuse against Kaylan Whiteside when she was a child.

Wayne Whiteside pleaded no contest to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in 2005 after he was first charged with a lewd act on a child and was sentenced to five years’ probation with a 10-year prison sentence that was suspended, records show.

The third defendant in the shooting of Whiteside, Ben Patrick Smith, 43, remains jailed pending trial.

Prosecutors said in the May hearing that last year the plotters brought rope, tape and other items to kidnap Whiteside.

Smith’s fingerprints were found at the scene, prosecutors have said, and he was soon arrested. Liewald and Kaylan Whiteside, who had fled, were caught several days later in nearby Union County.
