A Folk Nation gang member being held at the York County jail on attempted murder and other charges tried to smuggle a “hit list” out of the jail to other gang members, prosecutors said.

John Brooks Hall Duncan, 24, of Fort Mill, a convicted felon who spent years in state prison, allegedly had seven people on the list that included four York County Sheriff’s Office deputies and three witnesses on the list, said Chris Epting, 16th Circuit Solicitor, during a hearing over evidence Monday in court.

Police were able to intercept the list before it got out of the jail, Epting said.

Duncan has been jailed since March on a dozen charges, including attempted murder, assault, conspiracy, and other charges, after a fight in Fort Mill where a man was stabbed. After his arrest Duncan tried, using a third party, to get the list of deputies who worked on the case and others who were involved out to others, Epting said.

Duncan is a documented gang member, Epting said.

Duncan’s lawyer, 16th Circuit Assistant Public Defender Melissa Inzerillo, said she asked for the hearing Monday in order to get evidence she believed was being withheld from Duncan but is owed under under court rules. Inzerillo said she asked for the name of the third party and the statements given to law enforcement.

Judge John C. Hayes ruled ruled prosecutors had to turn over the name of the third party but do not have to turn over the statements.

In addition to the violent allegations against Duncan, he faces seven counts of criminal solicitation to commit a felony from the alleged attempt to try and get the list of cops and others to be targeted out to others, Epting said.
