Man charged with murder in stabbing death in Chester
A 68-year-old man was charged with murder after another man was found stabbed to death at a Chester home Tuesday morning, police say.
Melvin Fourney Sr., 68, was charged with murder and placed in the Chester County Detention Center, where he remained Tuesday evening awaiting arraignment, according to a statement from the Chester Police Department.
Fourney is charged with the murder of 47-year-old Leonard Hayes, police say.
Officers were called to an assault at 125 Oak St. about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to police spokeswoman Keisha Tobias. They arrived and found a man who was unresponsive and “had succumbed to his injuries.” It’s not clear if one or both of the men lived in the home.
Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said Hayes died of a stab wound to the chest. His body will be sent for an autopsy.
Police did not say what led up to the stabbing, and the case remains under investigation.
