Rock Hill Police arrest man accused of soliciting minor for sex
Authorities say they’ve arrested a Charlotte man who was soliciting for sex with minors on the Internet in Rock Hill.
Detectives arrested David Stidham, 43, in Rock Hill on Wednesday, charging him with criminal solicitation of a minor, Rock Hill Police records show. Stidham is accused of agreeing to meet with a 15-year-old girl – who was actually an undercover Rock Hill investigator – and planning to give her alcohol, a police report states.
According to Rock Hill Police, Stidham was suspected of possibly trying to solicit minors with a personal ad post on a website. A detective with the Rock Hill Police Department discovered the alleged post last week during an investigation as part of his duties with the S.C. Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Stidham told police officers that he thought 15 was the legal age of consent for sex and he had “looked it up,” according to the incident report.
