Body of missing woman found in Chester
Authorities in Chester County are investigating the death of a missing woman who was found dead without clothes near her home Sunday.
Details were limited Monday morning, but the woman, 51-year-old Judy Lindsey, was found on Fifth Street near her home on the 500 block, Chief Deputy Coroner Tommy Williams said. The call came in around noon.
Chief Deputy Robert Sprouse of the Chester County Sheriff’s Office said Lindsey had been reported missing by her boyfriend about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. York County K-9 officers responded and searched for Lindsay, who was found in a “brushy” area about 200 feet from her home.
Lindsey’s boyfriend told deputies she was on the porch with her daughter and a family friend when he went to bed, according to a sheriff’s report. Lindsey’s daughter said Lindsey stayed on the porch when she went to bed just after midnight.
The boyfriend and daughter said Lindsey was not at home when they woke up, deputies said. They tried unsuccessfully to find her in the neighborhood and then called police.
Sprouse said clothing items were found outside the home. Lindsey’s death is listed as “unattended death under suspicious circumstances,” and investigators are talking with a “person of interest.”
The body was sent to Newberry for an autopsy Monday morning. Williams could not comment on the condition of the woman’s body but said the Chester County Sheriff’s Office asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate.
“Normally when you find a body, we want to make sure and cover our tracks,” he said of SLED’s involvement.
A SLED spokesman could only confirm that the agency is assisting Chester County.
