Official: Driver in Lancaster school bus hit-and-run found near crash scene, arrested
The driver who crashed into the back of a Lancaster County school bus and then fled Thursday morning was later arrested near the crash scene, according to the Lancaster County School District.
An older model Ford Mustang crashed into the back of a school bus on Grace Avenue about 6 a.m., but the person driving the Mustang fled, according to Bryan Vaughn, director of school safety and transportation for Lancaster County schools.
No students were on the bus and the driver was not injured.
The driver was able to resume his route picking up middle and high school students, Vaughn said.
“One of our personnel that went out and responded located the vehicle about an hour after the accident,” Vaughn said, adding that the Mustang was seen parked in a wooded area on Victoria Street, which connects to Grace Avenue.
The district employee contacted the S.C. Highway Patrol, which responded and arrested the driver, Vaughn said.
A message left with the Highway Patrol was not immediately returned Thursday morning.
